Puigdemont reproaches the Government for forgiving Andalusia "50%" of the FLA debt and Catalonia "only" 20%

The president of Junts, Carles Puigdemont, has reproached the Government for forgiving Andalusia "50%" of the FLA debt, while for Catalonia "only" 20%, after the First Vice President and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, announced this Monday her proposal for the State to assume up to 83,252 million euros of deficit, where Andalusia and Catalonia add up to 43% of the total.
This was stated on Wednesday in a note in X collected by Europa Press, where he stressed that Junts has always demanded the cancellation of all debt: "We continue to maintain that the Catalan administration must free itself from this entire problem that the State burdened it with."
According to the methodology proposed by the Ministry of Finance, Andalusia and Catalonia would be the autonomous communities that would benefit the most, as the State would assume 18.791 billion euros in the case of the former (47% of its liabilities) and 17.104 billion in the case of the latter (just under 20%).
"What part of this approach leads certain journalists or political spokespeople to say that Junts does not want the Generalitat to pay less debt? By the way, have they given any explanations as to why 50% of Andalusia's debt is forgiven and only 20% for Catalonia?" he asked.
An "unfair" and "insufficient" system for CataloniaIn his opinion, the problem with Catalonia's financing is the system itself, which he describes as "unfair" and "insufficient", and also the fact that the State "does not execute the investments it is committed to, and instead executes many more in Madrid than it had initially agreed to."
"Let us add that the problem becomes more serious when Catalan groups approve budgets for the Government every year, which the same Government fails to comply with year after year. The explanations must be sought from them," he said.
However, regarding the agreement to forgive part of the debt of the Regional Liquidity Fund (FLA), he acknowledged that the fact that "a part is now forgiven is better than not forgiving any of it."
Spending ceilingHe also stressed that they are working to ensure that the Generalitat has more resources through the so-called spending ceiling, and regretted that they are "very alone" in this defence.
After criticising the "falsehoods spread by the far right" , he said that the problem is that when political spokespeople aligned with the Government bloc do so, they go unpunished, in his opinion, and are just as harmful as the others, he pointed out.
